▲ Production of gas meters at Daemyung IT’s Hwaseong plant

[Gas Newspaper=Reporter Park Gwi-cheol]  Daemyung IT Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Jong-in), a specialized manufacturer of measuring instruments such as household and industrial gas meters and gas volume conversion devices (temperature and pressure compensators), is celebrating its 20th anniversary on the 17th of this month.

Daemyung IT, which has been importing and selling industrial membrane gas meters from GMT, Germany, turbine and rotary gas meters, and temperature and pressure compensators from COMMON, and industrial heat meters and water meters from Hydrometer, Germany since 2000, also obtained ISO 9002 certification in 2001 for the first time as a gas meter importer to provide a realistic management system, continuous education for employees, and the best service to customers.

Daemyung IT, which had secured its own competitiveness in the domestic market, boldly threw down the gauntlet for the domestic production of industrial gas meters by moving to its own factory in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do in May 2007. In 2007, it received type approval from the Korea Testing & Research Institute for the first time in Korea for the G10, G16, and in 2008 for the G25, followed by type approval for the G40 in 2010 and the G6 in 2015. In 2011, it succeeded in gradually localizing the G100, G400, and G65, following the G160 and G250 industrial turbine gas meters for the first time in Korea.

At the time, there were some who pointed out that Daemyung IT's challenge to localize industrial gas meters was a risky endeavor, but it was possible thanks to bold investment, continuous research and development, and active interest and support from customers, and it was able to secure quality and price competitiveness.

Kim Jong-in, CEO of Daemyung IT, said, “Domestic products for home use have been exported for a long time, so I thought it would be possible to export industrial products as well through domestic production. Domestic production of industrial products was not an easy decision, and there was some trial and error during the early stages of development, but customers helped us a lot after production, and now I feel a great sense of accomplishment.” He added, “I am always grateful to everyone who has believed in and supported our company for the past 20 years, and I will do my best.”

Following industrial localization, the company also participated in the production of household gas meters such as G1.6, G2.5, and G4 in 2013, thereby transforming into a total gas meter manufacturer and growing.

In order to develop more aggressive and professional products, Daemyung IT also established a corporate research institute and developed a temperature and pressure compensator that had previously been dependent on imports in 2011, acquired KS (KS B 8300) and explosion-proof certification, and is now selling it. Daemyung IT’s temperature and pressure compensator UNIGAS 500 is a product designed to calculate temperature, pressure, and compression ratio to produce compensation values, and is receiving favorable reviews in the market. The research institute also developed an electronic gas meter and an inspection gas meter.

Daemyung IT exports domestically produced household and industrial gas meters to overseas markets as well as the domestic market, and exported approximately $1.5 million worth of them last year.

Currently, Daemyung IT's Hwaseong plant is equipped with facilities to produce about 500,000 household gas meters per year in Plant 1 and about 20,000 industrial gas meters per year in Plant 2. In addition to gas meters, water meters and heat meters (mechanical and ultrasonic) are also produced and distributed to domestic and overseas markets.

CEO Kim Jong-in said, “Customers demand high-quality products while also wanting to supply them at a good price. The manufacturing environment is becoming increasingly difficult, but we will spare no investment in developing better products to meet our customers’ needs.”

Over the past 20 years, Daemyung IT has developed on its own amid fierce competition, but as the conservative gas meter market is changing rapidly, the company plans to respond to the trend of the times and secure its own competitiveness by quickly developing and releasing new products combined with various communication technologies.
